The Seagram Citrus Technology Center is the leading effort of Tropicana
Orange Juice to produce and distribute orange juice in China. The center
is located in the Szechwan Province of China, a remote mountainous region
with limited accessibility, which created the need for intricate methods
of construction of this facility. Scientists from the United States
will be stationed at the center for extended periods of time in order
to monitor and promote the quality of new orange groves.
The compound is assembled into three, one-level divisions, including
living quarters, offices, and laboratories. The living quarters contain
a variety of apartment spaces, including either separate or shared kitchens,
plus a spacious living area. The office division consists of several
large training rooms, open and private offices, a full kitchen accompanied
by an employee dining room, and locker facilities. The laboratory division
provides labs with both biological and chemical capabilities and labs
with materials for processing orange juice.
All three divisions are joined by a corridor, making residence, office,
and lab readily accessible. A courtyard lies between the offices and
living quarters, providing a pleasant buffer zone for all residents.
A separate facility which supplies maintenance and storage space, and
mechanical and electrical services, is located at the rear of the compound.
A large greenhouse is planned for future construction.
