Size: 64,000 square feet

HJM Architects, Inc. designed the Hen House Market to meet the Owner's design criteria as part of the Merriam Town Center shopping center while maintaining the character of the supermarket similar to its developed identity.

The facility includes a seating area adjacent to the deli, produce, bakery, seafood/poultry, meat, dairy, frozen foods, banking services, nursery, customer service, pharmacy, floral area, receiving area and men's and women's toilets. An equipment mezzanine was provided above the receiving area.

The design incorporated a clerestory at the main entrance, covered exterior walks and a covered drive at the grocery pick-up area. The structure is a steel frame and the exterior walls are painted precast concrete with an EIFS cornice to match the character of the shopping center. Colored smooth and split face CMU and EIFS are used in the construction of the projected areas along the front elevation including the main entrance, grocery pick-up area and the landscape planters.
